Supporting Brave Volunteers in Kherson and Oleshki Animal Shelters

In the heart of Kherson and Oleshki (Kherson region) amidst the challenges faced by their communities, a group of remarkable volunteers dedicates their time and energy to rescuing and caring for abandoned animals. These heroes, most of them women, run pet shelters with a mission to give a second chance at life to animals left behind. Their work at the Kherson “4 Paws” shelter and Oleshki exemplifies courage, compassion, and tireless dedication.

In Kherson, the “4 Paws” shelter has become a haven for countless animals. Brave volunteers rescue stray and abandoned pets from the streets, providing them with food, medical care, and a safe place to heal. Right now they have over 700 animals in their care. Every wagging tail and every purring cat is a testament to the love and care they receive here.

 The story is the similar in nearby Oleshki, located on the left bank of Dnipro river. Oleshki has faced unparalleled hardships. Many residents were forced to evacuate their homes due to the invasion and subsequent flooding. Tragically, countless animals were left behind, wandering the streets in search of food and shelter. These animals are now homeless, with many living among the rubble of buildings destroyed by shelling, which continues to this day.

We had the privilege of visiting the “4 Paws” shelter in Kherson. Meeting these incredible women left a lasting impression on us. Their ability to create warmth and security for animals, often under difficult circumstances, is truly inspiring. They work tirelessly, not only tending to the animals’ immediate needs but also finding loving homes for them.
